BATON ROUGE, LA– The Baton Rouge Alliance for Students Action is launching a new hub for parent empowerment. The Parent Action Center will provide families with the tools and resources to be partners in their child’s education. A weekend intensive workshop, the Parent Academy, will be hosted from July 22 to July 23, 2022, to build capacity among parents when supporting the needs of their learners.
“Empowering families is core to our mission. We believe that empowered families are able to support the needs of their learners and help ensure the success of schools,” said Alliance Action CEO Adonica Pelichet Duggan.
The Parent Academy workshop series will allow parents to understand their rights, navigate conversations with school administration, and develop skills to support and advocate for their child’s academic success.
Who is the program for?
The Academy will be composed of individuals with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds who live across the district. Anyone with a student enrolled in a Baton Rouge school is encouraged to apply to participate. After submitting applications, select participants will continue the application process by participating in a phone interview. Childcare services will be provided to all program participants.
