BATON ROUGE, LA–The Baton Rouge Alliance for Students Action announced today the launch of its Parent Academy applications. The parent-based initiative offers families the tools and resources needed to become partners in their student’s academic success. The program is open to all parents of students attending a Baton Rouge area school.

“By helping families make informed decisions for their children’s educational futures and develop advocacy skills, we will help build parent power to demand access to high-quality schools for every Baton Rouge student.”  Adonica Pelichet Duggan, CEO of Baton Rouge Alliance for Students Action. “This program will elevate parent voices and ensure every child has a chance to reach their highest potential.”

Participants will commit to attending monthly training sessions, during which they will go on community field trips and receive professional development related to understanding education policies and practices, navigating IEPs and 504 plans, and student mental health and wellness. Through these activities, parents will gain the knowledge and resources needed to ensure that their children are receiving appropriate educational opportunities.
